theSQUAD believes in doing it differently - no little black dresses (LBDs), schoolroom seating or death by PowerPoint. We are also passionate about up-skilling and knowledge sharing! So, we’re pleased to introduce next intake of fabulous new interns who are learning the event-management ropes.
Lethabo Kgotse is an undergraduate at the University of Johannesburg currently studying Tourism Management. What lights her fire is interacting with people. She’s results driven, able to work under pressure and is a team player with initiative.
What are you working on at theSQUAD?
“At the moment I’m focusing on Night of a 1000 Drawings.”
What do you hope to learn from working with us?
“I hope to broaden my academic knowledge and gain practical experience within the events industry. I aspire to develop my skills and learn the fundamental principles of running an events business, communicating with clients and delivering excellent service.”
Who keeps you inspired and why?
“My mother, she is persistent and always eager to learn. She is also goal driven and determined to achieve the desired outcome no matter how long and hard it takes.”
How do you keep sane in this crazy world?
“Reading, cooking and baking.”

A lover of art, adventure, people, and new experiences, Nomfundo Zulu has joined theSQUAD as an intern. She’s currently also studying at the Hospitality Management at International Hotel School.
What do you want to get out of working at theSQUAD?
“I want to know more about the ins and outs of event management, starting a project from scratch to completion and how to do good business.”
What inspires you daily?
Who is someone you admire in the world?
“Frida Kahlo is my inspiration - she screams confidence and boldness in a woman and these traits I aspire to possess. I keep focused on my interests which are a love of art and dance. Beniter Mkhabela is a third year tourism student at the University of Johannesburg.
How would you describe yourself?
“I am an ambitious, outgoing and a generous individual. I am driven by results and try my best to achieve positive results.”
Why are you working at theSQUAD?
“I hope to improve my communication skills and learn more about the event industry. Improve my critical thinking and broaden my horizons.”
What inspires you daily?
“Life, being able to wake up every day inspires me and I am grateful.”
Who inspires you and why?
“I have various people I look up to for different reasons, I believe no one is perfect so I cannot look up to only one person in life. I admire Oprah Winfrey for her strength, for example. She comes from a disadvantaged background and suffered a lot of trauma but she worked hard and is one of the richest women in the world.”
What do you do when you’re not working or studying?
“I enjoy reading, exercising and listening to music.”
Anything else you’d like to share with us?
“Yes, I believe there is no passion to be found in playing small, and settling for a life that is less than the life you are capable of living.”
